Profile of Department

Pattern of Functioning:

Today, the term information technology has come to mean a technology that encompasses many fields. The I.T. Professionals have to perform variety of tasks ranging from installing applications to designing complex computer networks, databases and softwares and management of databases and entire systems. The department, therefore, with qualified and dedicated faculty, competent supporting technical staff and state of the art equipments in the laboratories gives more stress on developing not only subject knowledge but also the ability to think innovatively.

Dr. A. P.J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India has stated that the spread of I.T. is influencing daily life of individual and so open source software needs to be built which would be cost effective. Hence the department of Information Technology right from its inception is using and encouraging the use of open source softwares to the maximum extent. Due to this the faculty as well as the students are enjoying additional benefits like robust and flexible operating system which is less prone for security related crashes.

• Organize workshops under quality improvement program to keep the faculty abreast of latest technology

Curricular activities:

IT Department was established in 2006-07 with an intake of 60 students and is running undergraduate course BE (IT) affiliated to Pune University.  The goal of the department is to train the students to face the challenges of ever changing technology. The faculty members therefore makes use of modern teaching aids to impart effective training to students. We also organise workshops under quality improvement program to keep the faculty abreast of latest technology.  In addition Guest Lectures from Industrial experts, seminars are organised for our students.

Class Teacher along with two additional faculty members look after all the students as guardians to monitor the progress and to solve their academic and non academic problems. We are using e-Learning Portal where soft copies of course material, university question papers, e-books related to the subjects are available.  We have also established departmental library where in reference books are easily available to the students.

Co-curricular activities:

We encourage our students to participate in various activities like technical paper presentations, programming contest, robotics events, quizes etc. We have established students chapter of CSI and it is a platform to organise industry relevant training programs for the students. In addition we organise special training on soft-skills for the students.

Extra-curricular activities:

Our students participate in various cultural intercollegiate events like Firodiya Karandak, Purushottam  Karandak, Pu La.  Karandak, Youthopia, Verve, etc, and have won prizes.  They also take keen interest in various sports activities.
